The short answer

The alternatives to Intercom in this guide are OneTwoAgent, Help Scout, Crisp, Chatbase and Zendesk. They replace different parts of Intercom, so start with what you want to replace, then compare the larger line of your bill.

Start with what you’re replacing

  • You want to replace only the AI and keep the Intercom inbox

    Not compared in this guide

Fin is the AI agent; Intercom is still the name of the Messenger and inbox, although the company itself is now called Fin. This guide doesn’t cover AI agents that run inside the Intercom inbox in place of Fin. OneTwoAgent isn’t one: it brings its own website widget and shared inbox, so moving the AI means moving the chat on your site and your team’s inbox too.

  • Support starts inside your product

    OneTwoAgentCrispChatbase

Each brings its own chat widget in place of the Messenger. OneTwoAgent answers with AI first in the website widget, WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram, can read the signed-in customer’s account, and has unlimited teammates. Crisp prices per workspace, which suits many teammates. Chatbase starts from an AI agent for teams of up to 5; its helpdesk starts on Standard.

  • Most of your support arrives by email

    Help ScoutCrisp

Help Scout runs email-led workflows in its shared inbox, and Crisp handles email next to chat. OneTwoAgent answers in the website widget, WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram, not by email, so it fits support that starts inside your product.

  • You want to replace the whole helpdesk

    Help ScoutZendesk

Help Scout and Zendesk replace Intercom’s helpdesk, not only the AI. Zendesk is not a cheaper option on list price: it costs more than Intercom in all three scenarios.

Then compare the larger line of your bill

Most of the bill is seats
A team of five or more with modest AI volume pays mostly for people. Pricing that doesn’t charge per person cuts that line: Crisp’s workspace plans or OneTwoAgent’s unlimited teammates. In our six-person scenario, Intercom comes to $352.80 a month; Crisp Essentials $95; OneTwoAgent Core $49.
Most of the bill is Fin outcomes
When the AI handles hundreds or thousands of conversations, per-resolution pricing keeps growing as automation works. Help Scout’s $0.75 is a lower rate on the same model. OneTwoAgent counts AI conversations inside a fixed plan allowance instead, and it replaces the Intercom Messenger and inbox along with Fin.

Six billing units that look alike

Each product counts AI work differently. A thousand of one is not a thousand of another, so totals compare price lists, not equal work.

IntercomFin outcome
A resolution, procedure handoff, disqualification or self-serve routing. $0.99 each, one per conversation at most.
Help ScoutAI resolution
AI Answers replied and the customer didn’t ask for more help afterwards. $0.75 each, once per session.
ZendeskAutomated resolution
A request the AI agent resolved without escalation to a person. 5–10 per agent a month included, then $1.50 committed or $2 pay-as-you-go.
CrispAI credit
A dollar credit included in the plan. Crisp estimates $5 at around 90 automated conversations and $25 at around 450.
ChatbaseMessage credit
Spent on each request to the AI model; the cost depends on the model, and actions can add requests. Credits renew each calendar month and don’t carry over.
OneTwoAgentAI conversation
A conversation the AI handles, covering up to 10 AI replies, whether or not it ends in a resolution. Plans include a fixed number a month.

    Price your own Intercom bill

The Intercom cost calculator uses the same list prices: your seats, plan, billing period and Fin outcomes, next to the OneTwoAgent plan your AI conversations need. For the other products, the formulas in each scenario work the same way.

    What each replacement gives up

The saving is only half of the decision. This is what changes when you move.

    OneTwoAgent

    You save
No seat line and no per-outcome line: one monthly plan with unlimited teammates and Voice minutes included.
    You give up
Intercom’s wider suite: product tours, surveys and checklists, multibrand Messenger, SLAs, SSO and HIPAA on Expert. Channels are the website widget (chat and Voice), WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram; Voice runs in the widget, not over a phone line.
    Check first
AI conversations count whether or not they resolve, so size the plan by volume. Above 5,000 a month, talk to us.

    Help Scout

    You save
A lower rate on both lines: $25 per user and $0.75 per AI resolution, with a 3-month AI Answers trial.
    You give up
Both lines still grow: one with headcount, the other with every conversation the AI resolves.
    Check first
When a resolution is charged, and the monthly cap you can set on AI Answers.

    Crisp

    You save
The seat line: a workspace price covers 4 to 20 seats.
    You give up
The AI allowance is a dollar credit. Crisp estimates $75 on Plus at around 1,350 automated conversations; its pricing page doesn’t list what more costs. Extra agents only on Plus.
    Check first
AI Knowledge training, MCP Server and Phone start on Essentials.

    Chatbase

    You save
For up to 5 members, a plan price instead of seats plus outcomes.
    You give up
It starts from an AI agent, not a helpdesk: helpdesk, Voice and API access begin on Standard, and larger teams need Enterprise.
    Check first
How many credits a real conversation spends with your model and actions; extra credits are $40 per 1,000.

    Zendesk

    You save
Usually nothing on list price. It includes automated resolutions per agent and light agents for occasional contributors.
    You give up
More per agent than Intercom, and $1.50–$2 per automated resolution beyond the allowance.
    Check first
Choose it for the suite (ticketing, telephony, AI agents with actions), not to save money.

Test the replacement before you turn Intercom off

Keep Intercom in place while you test a replacement on selected pages. Switch fully only when you’re ready.

    1. Day 1

      Pull three months of numbers

From Intercom billing: Full seats, Fin outcomes billed and conversations. Note when your annual seat commitment ends.

    2. Day 1

      Shortlist by your larger line

Seat-heavy bills point to workspace or unlimited-teammate pricing. Outcome-heavy bills point to fixed allowances or a lower rate.

    3. Week 1

      Load the same knowledge

OneTwoAgent imports the text of your public Intercom Help Center, up to 300 pages per run. Private articles, conversations, contacts, tickets, macros, workflows and bots stay in Intercom.

    4. Week 1

      Replay real questions

Take 30 to 50 recent questions, including ones that depend on the customer’s account, and compare answers. A demo FAQ won’t show the difference.

    5. Weeks 2–4

      Run it beside Intercom

Put the new widget on a few pages or for one segment while the Intercom Messenger stays live everywhere else.

    6. Week 4

Count the new unit for a month

Check how much of the allowance, credit or resolutions a real month used before you pick a plan.

    7. At renewal

      Swap the snippet

Decide what conversation history you need to keep and how, then switch when the Intercom commitment ends.

What is the cheapest Intercom alternative for a SaaS team?

It depends on which line of your bill is larger. On list prices in our three scenarios, OneTwoAgent has the lowest total ($49, $99, $249 a month against Intercom’s $352.80, $829.50, $3,651), and Crisp is next where its included AI credit covers the volume. Those totals compare price lists, not equal amounts of work or equal automation quality.

Is Help Scout cheaper than Intercom?

On list price, yes in all three of our scenarios: $270 against $352.80; $637.50 against $829.50; $2,475 against $3,651 a month. It keeps the same shape of bill, per user plus per resolution, so both lines still grow.

    Is Zendesk cheaper than Intercom?

Not on list price in our scenarios. Zendesk costs $594, $1,267.50, $5,100 a month against Intercom’s $352.80, $829.50, $3,651. Teams choose it for its suite, not to save money.

Can I compare Fin outcomes with OneTwoAgent AI conversations?

Not one for one. A Fin outcome is charged when Fin reaches an outcome; a OneTwoAgent AI conversation counts every conversation the AI handles, up to 10 AI replies, resolved or not. Compare the bill for your own volume of each unit.

What moves from Intercom if I switch to OneTwoAgent?

The text of your public Help Center articles, up to 300 pages per run, with each article’s address kept as its source. Conversations, contacts, tickets, macros, workflows and bots stay in Intercom; new conversations start in OneTwoAgent’s shared inbox.

    Is Intercom called Fin now?

The company is. Intercom changed its company name to Fin on May 12, 2026, and Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin on September 10, 2026. Intercom is still the name of the helpdesk: the Messenger on your site and the inbox your team works in. Fin is the AI agent. Every product in this guide brings its own chat widget, so each one replaces the Intercom Messenger, not only Fin.

Who wrote this guide, and how were prices checked?

OneTwoAgent did, and OneTwoAgent is one of the products compared. We didn’t run the other products on live traffic for this guide. Prices and limits were read from each official pricing page on Oct 8, 2026; the scenarios are hypothetical.
