AI customer support pricing for SaaS: plans and real costs

Every AI support bill is two lines: the people on your team and the AI’s usage. Products differ in which line grows — and what they count as usage.

OneTwoAgent: $19–$249 a month for 100–5,000 AI conversations. Unlimited teammates.

How much does AI customer support cost?

There’s no single price, because products bill different things. Add up two lines for a typical month: what your team costs in seats, and what the AI’s usage costs in that product’s unit.

On Help Scout, Intercom and Zendesk entry plans, seats run $25–$55 per teammate a month, billed annually. AI usage is billed per outcome ($0.99 on Fin), per resolution ($0.75 on Help Scout, $1.50–$2 on Zendesk beyond the included ones), in message credits, or as a monthly allowance — OneTwoAgent plans run $19–$249 for 100–5,000 AI conversations with no seat fees.

Five common AI support pricing models

Help Scout charges $0.75 when AI Answers responded and the customer didn’t ask for more help, once per session. Zendesk includes 5–10 automated resolutions per agent a month, then $1.50 committed or $2 pay-as-you-go.

Why the same conversations produce different bills

An illustration, not a test of any product: ten made-up conversations with a stated ending each, two teammates, and five meters applying their published rules.

  • “AI answered, customer done”: the customer thanked the AI and asked for nothing more. We count it as a resolution under Fin’s, Help Scout’s and Zendesk’s rules.
  • “Refund procedure hands it to billing”: a Fin Procedure configured to hand off, which Fin bills as an outcome. Neither Help Scout nor Zendesk counts a handoff as a resolution.
  • “Customer asked for a person”: passed to the team without an outcome, so Fin doesn’t charge it, and it isn’t a resolution.
  • Message credits: we show AI replies only. The credits they cost depend on the model you pick and any actions, so no credit total is given.
  • Every AI-handled conversation stays within 10 AI replies, so each one is one OneTwoAgent AI conversation.

In this illustration the same ten conversations read as 2 seats, 7 outcomes, 6 resolutions and 9 AI conversations, while credits depend on the model. Another set of conversations gives other counts — this is not a conversion rate between units. Don’t compare unit prices across meters; compare a month of your own conversations.

Outcome (Fin)
Resolution, procedure handoff, disqualification or self-serve routing; one per conversation at most.
Resolution (Help Scout)
AI Answers responded and the customer didn’t ask for more help; once per session.
Automated resolution (Zendesk)
Resolved by the AI agent without escalation to a human.
Message credit (Chatbase)
Spent per request to the AI model; the amount depends on the model, and actions add requests.
AI conversation (OneTwoAgent)
A customer conversation the AI answers in, up to 10 AI replies, whatever the result. Teammate replies don’t count.

What changes the budget for a SaaS team?

Pull these numbers from a real month before you compare a single price.

  • Teammates

Who replies to customers, and who only reads? Some suites bill everyone who answers; some have free light or Lite seats.

  • AI conversations a month

How many conversations would reach the AI first — chat, email and messaging together.

  • Real resolution counts

From a pilot or your current bot, counted by each vendor’s own definition — not a demo’s promise.

  • Voice

Often a separate meter: Fin Voice is $1.99 per voice outcome via sales; HubSpot’s customer agent uses 50 credits a minute for voice, a beta channel. OneTwoAgent includes Voice minutes in paid plans.

  • Channels

Which channels the AI must cover, and whether they’re on your plan. Intercom prices phone by usage. OneTwoAgent covers the website widget, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram on every plan.

    Set by plan tier

  • Knowledge sources

Docs, help center, files, past tickets. Some imports and training sit on higher tiers — Crisp lists AI knowledge training from Essentials ($95 a month).

    Set by plan tier

  • Signed-in account reads

Answers about a customer’s own plan, usage or jobs need identity and account data. Check the tier: Freshchat lists JWT authentication on Enterprise; Chatbase actions can add credit-billed requests.

  • Integrations and feature gates

SSO, HIPAA and SLAs are on Intercom Expert; Help Scout lists Salesforce, Jira and HubSpot on Plus ($45 per user).

  • The same assumed number of billable results for every product that bills them; each vendor counts its unit its own way, and nothing here says two products resolve the same share.
  • Seat prices billed annually where offered; OneTwoAgent’s monthly plan price.
  • Chatbase: the smallest plan whose members cover the team and that includes the helpdesk; its message credits are assumed to cover the month.
  • OneTwoAgent: the smallest plan whose allowance covers the month, one AI conversation (up to 10 AI replies) per AI-handled conversation.
  • The budget leaves out Voice, phone, add-ons, taxes and one-time fees. The products include different features — this shows how each bill moves, not which product is better value.

Which pricing model fits your SaaS?

  1. You want the helpdesk, workflows and phone from one vendor

    A full suite, per teammate

Zendesk and Intercom bundle the helpdesk with an AI agent. Budget seats first, then the AI meter on top — Zendesk includes 5–10 automated resolutions per agent a month.

  2. The AI handles a small number of conversations and you keep your helpdesk

    Per resolution or per outcome

At low volume, paying only when the AI resolves can cost less than a plan. Fin on another helpdesk starts at a $49 base plan with 50 outcomes; Help Scout AI Answers is $0.75 a resolution plus seats.

  3. You’re building a custom AI agent and want to pay for model usage

    Message credits

Credits track AI requests, so the model you pick and the actions you add set the cost. Run a pilot month before you trust a forecast.

  4. AI volume is growing, the team is growing, and finance wants a fixed line

    A conversation allowance

The bill follows how many conversations the AI handles, not headcount or results, and steps up only when you move to a larger plan.

When OneTwoAgent isn’t the right replacement

  • You need an AI agent on a phone line. OneTwoAgent Voice runs in your website widget.
  • You’re replacing a helpdesk suite your team relies on for ticketing and SLAs. Compare the features you use, line by line, before you switch.

More than 5,000 AI conversations a month? That’s above the largest listed plan, Scale; custom capacity is arranged with the team.
